Goodbye Lorelei is a 2D Action-Adventure, Puzzle, RPG. Inspired by the charm of classic Gameboy adventures like Link’s Awakening and the transformative gameplay mechanics of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Explore a “green scale” world, using the power to bring color to life to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Goodbye Lorelei themes as the title suggests are about saying goodbye and the different ways, we do that. Goodbyes don't always have to be a negative thing. Through saying goodbye, it gives us the opportunity to show our true colors.
Your actions can change the characters and the world's color palette affecting both allies and enemies in positive and negative ways. Beyond color, players interact with a system that reflections perception and emotional clarity. This system reveals allies' and enemies' intentions, subtle environmental cues, and hidden narrative threads—but how clearly these appear depends on your insight. Higher insight sharpens thought bubbles, color contrast, and visual/audio cues, granting precise awareness of enemy actions and emotional states.
Lower Insight blurs and fragments these signals, offering safety from harsh truths but leaving tactical and narrative subtleties obscured. The order in which you act, the choices you make, and the relationships you foster all influence Insight, creating a dynamic interplay between knowledge, perception, and consequence. Lorelei also offers a skill tree for each character, letting you tailor party members to your strategies and playstyle, enhancing combat options and interactions.
Goodbye Lorelei is currently in early development. Any trailers, screenshots, or demos are proofs of concept and do not represent the final art style or gameplay experience.
Ula Moray lives on the Shrimp Islet, the smallest island in the Jade Archipelago. Raised by her tight-knit village after her mother's passing, she grew up surrounded by love that sometimes felt more like a cage. Determined to prove she can stand on her own, she trains with Tāne, the Wood Guardian, pushing herself to become stronger and braver than anyone suspects.
Ula Moray is a force of nature. A crashing wave, receding and bringing new beginnings. Just being around her causes you to get swept up and change, for better or worse. She always has an impact on the people around her.
During the Festival of Salacia, when a mysterious threat puts her home in danger, Ula acts without hesitation. Quick-thinking, stubborn, and fearless, she is ready to dive headfirst into trouble if it means protecting the people she loves. Her courage marks the beginning of a journey that may pull her far beyond the familiar shores of Shrimp Islet and into the vast unknown.
Ehu washed ashore on Shrimp Islet with no name and no memory, clinging to a broken raft and barely alive. The village took her in, yet never truly welcomed her. While Ula was surrounded by care, Ehu had to learn to face her struggles alone.
Strange instincts. Strange dreams. Strange anger. She cannot explain where these reactions come from or why they feel familiar. It is like part of her knows something she does not.
Guarded, sharp-tongued, and quick to strike first, she pushes others away before they get the chance to leave. She does not trust easily, and she barely trusts herself. Yet beneath the fear and the fire is someone still fighting to hold on to the only thing she truly owns: her name. She is Ehu. Whoever she was before the raft, she refuses to vanish again.
Dalit was discovered as a child by Mazu Moray, Ula’s mother, and taken in by the village chieftain. Clever and mischievous, he grew up slipping past boundaries, drawn to the wild and the forbidden. In his early years, he shared a close bond with Ula, exploring the island’s secrets and learning to navigate danger with laughter and daring.
Dalit is adventurous, impulsive, and fiercely independent. He questions rules by ignoring them, driven by a desire to explore and test limits. Unpredictable and irreverent, he moves through the world with a lightness that masks a deeper uncertainty about who he is and where he comes from.
Though loyal and courageous, Dalit can be reckless, overconfident, and unreliable. He fears being defined by others’ expectations and the weight of a past he doesn’t remember, chasing freedom above all else—even when it leads him into danger.
Granny Kólga has lived on Shrimp Islet for decades, raising Ula with blunt honesty, humor, and relentless practicality. Once close to Ula’s family, she took it upon herself to guide the girl after her mother’s passing, blending care with a fearless, no-nonsense approach.
Sharp-witted and unafraid of confrontation, Kólga moves through life with a wild warmth that inspires those around her while keeping them on their toes. She avoids pretension, mocks ceremony, and respects only those who show themselves as they are—aware that most people hide pieces of themselves, just as she does.
Fiercely protective of Ula, Kólga struggles to let her face challenges alone. Her stubbornness and sense of responsibility can make her seem overbearing, but beneath it lies someone who values freedom, honesty, and genuine connection above all else. She has earned her place as a steadfast guide and mentor on the island, shaping the next generation without ever asking for recognition.
